THE WEDDING DAY from the couple
In October 2023, we attended our friends’ wedding in San Francisco and decided to do a quick visit to Monterey county the day after. On our way down, we planned to stop by Pigeon Point lighthouse as he (Eric) has not been there yet and it just has stunning ocean views. Unfortunately, we missed it so we looked up another lighthouse around Monterey and, fortunately, found Point Pinos Lighthouse.
We were so surprised that there’s such a lighthouse that exists. It is so beautiful, calming, and very us, we thought. As we were walking around the place, I (Kathleen) jokingly said that it would be such a great place to get married at. He looked at me with so much excitement and quickly responded “why not?”. Take note: we weren’t even engaged yet at that time! So, that’s the story behind why we chose the Point Pinos lighthouse as our wedding ceremony venue.
Since the beginning of our wedding planning journey, we knew that we wanted our wedding to be classic, simple yet impactful. We wanted our families and, of course, our very closest friends to be there. We carefully chose who we wanted to be there.
We did not have a specific theme, although we both like beaches, gardens, forests, and mountains. So we found the location very fitting. We also initially wanted all of our guests to wear navy blue since we like that color a lot. However, we expanded to any dark colors at the end because we wanted to stand out by being the only people wearing whites/lights.
I was born and raised in the Philippines, moved here in the US when I was 14 years old. Eric was born in Texas; his parents were from Beijing, China. We wanted to incorporate our ethnic traditions but honestly struggled on how to do so. There’s a Filipino gesture called “mano po” which translates to “your hand, please” where a person asks for an elder’s hand and places it on his or her forehead as a sign of respect and blessing. Eric wanted to perform this gesture during the ceremony and he actually did when my parents handed me to him!
THE COUPLE
Eric likes to ride mountain bikes, build/create things including ceramics and woodwork, and complete projects on our minivan! Kathleen likes to cook, host family gatherings, and have a quiet, alone time reading and window online shopping. Together, we enjoy being out in nature, camping, watching sunsets, checking out new restaurants, grabbing In-n-Out once a week, and traveling together both locally and internationally, among many other things!
THE TEAM
Thank you to the team that made it all happen and congrats Kathleen & Eric! It was a perfect Point Pinos Lighthouse Wedding.
