“Don’t stress over all the small stuff because honestly, no one notices most of it. Just enjoy the day, be present and enjoy the moment! And expect that not everything will go just as you thought, but at the end of the day all that matters is your marriage and celebrating that with everyone you love!”

From the couple:

We started dating 4 years ago, but have known each other our whole lives. Our grandparents and parents are friends and grew up together. We have pictures of us together as little kids, our dads together as kids and our grandfathers together as kids. We even have a telegram that my parents sent Will‘s parents when he was born saying, “Keep your boy away from my girls” framed at our house, as a funny reminder of how things come back around!

Proposal:

We got engaged in Morro Bay on a trip to visit San Luis Obispo where Will went to college. He proposed overlooking the Morro Bay Rock, which we have a painting of over our bed at home now. Will got me a halo diamond white gold engagement ring and I got him a gold band, he wanted one that reminded him of the ring his dad has.

Theme:

We always knew we wanted a classic feeling wedding that would be a big celebration, but the whole theme was very dictated by the venue. We fell in love with the Julia Morgan ballroom when we first toured it and wanted our wedding to compliment that ballroom/art deco vibe. Also, we wanted something that would be visually classic, which is why we went with a more black and white theme with pops of gold. This was perfect for our Julia Morgan Ballroom wedding photos.

Wedding Styles:

We wanted the groomsmen in tuxes and the bridesmaids in black because we wanted it to feel a little more formal, but classic and modern. Additional elements were the cute little tributes to San Francisco with the menu’s, table numbers and escort cards…with the Golden Gate Bridge, Coit tower, Sutro Tower and Transamerica Building because that was where Will and I started dating there and our first apartment/first time living together was there, so it is a special place for us.

I really had no idea what I wanted other than a fit and flare dress…no big ball gown. My sister, mom and future mother in law went to Miosa in downtown Sacramento, which is where my sister got her dress. I tried on about 15 and narrowed it down to 2. I ended up going with a fit and flare, ivory with blush lining and a lace break from the knee to the floor. It was ivory lace with a sweetheart neckline and straps as well as a train. Will from the beginning wanted to wear a tux, he wanted a thin cut tux with satin lapels and a satin tie, with a gold tie bar and boutonniere.

Florals:

I’ve always loved big, round, full bouquet’s so I wanted classic white and blush florals, with little greenery and not free form. We also wanted a floral chandelier, which was a task in and of itself. We went with Asiel Design as they had worked with Alexis and Lillian at the Julia Morgan ballroom before. So we went with white, blush and ivory roses, hydrangeas, filler roses, lush roses and stock. In the chandelier was a mix of white/ivory/blush roses, hydrangeas and orchids.

We wanted something that was romantic, beautiful accents, but not overwhelming or too distracting. Will was the only one with a boutonniere, it was an anemone, a white flower with a black middle and gold accents.

Ceremony:

Our ceremony was very much made by us and our officiant. We wanted something that was non-denominational, but also classic and traditional for us. Also, we wanted to include those that couldn’t be here as well as thank those that were. We also wanted to not have to worry about long vows or memorization so we decided on what we wanted from a mix of many sources and made our own combination. Also, we  included a little game of thrones reference for those that caught it!

The ceremony was in front of the fireplace in the ballroom with lots of candles, large white floral arrangements and rose petals. We decided that we wanted to lighten the mood for the recession so we went with the Indiana Jones theme song as our exit music.

Reception:

The reception was also in the Julia Morgan Ballroom. The staff flipped the room between the ceremony and reception while everyone was at the cocktail hour. Our tablescapes were very simple, but elegant with a lot of candlelight. Also, gold accents, black, white and gold charges, gold and glass candle holders and white/ivory centerpieces. The head table had a champagne colored glitter tablecloth to make it a little bit of a centerpiece.

I handmade menus for each place setting with a note from Will and I as well as embossed stamps of San Francisco landmarks. I also made the escort cards that were in the shape of a San Francisco cityscape or a cable car.
