From The Couple:

Vision for the wedding:

Niv and I had one goal for our wedding: fun! Looking back on the big day, we feel that we really hit that goal. We waited so long to celebrate our marriage with our closest friends and family and we are so glad we did wait. We didn’t want to settle for a small covid wedding, we wanted people to eat, drink, dance and laugh. Everyone had great energy and had so much fun on the dance floor. Our color scheme was burgundy, with accented pink/blush and teal/green colors. We didn’t have a specific theme but we did have a large Israeli presence with Nivs’ friends and families. Neither of us are religious but we did have a few big Jewish/Israeli moments (breaking the glass at the ceremony, bride and groom up in the chairs, Hebrew song for Niv’s mother-son dance).

For the most part we relied on our wedding vendors – florist did the centerpieces, venue set up the dessert table, etc. There were a few DIY décor that were special – my mom handmade the party favors (scented soaps), my mom hand painted the signature drink signs and picked all of the photos to display on the dresser, my sister made all of the signs/seating chart and hand crafted the signature drink signs, and I made the popsicle stick guest book. I hand painted the cake topper and the gift box.

The Big Day:

The main way we personalized our day was with our choreographed first dance. No body at the wedding knew we had taught ourselves our dance over a year and a half ago. We practiced every week leading up to the wedding and people were so surprised. Otherwise, the playlist was handpicked by us so it featured our favorite songs that everyone danced and partied to all night long.

A lot of our decoration was floral – we used Rosedale for our bouquets, boutonnieres, gazebo floral, centerpieces and cocktail tables. The floral was a big part of incorporating our wedding colors into the wedding but I did not have big opinions about floral so my florist had a lot of creative freedom.

Wedding Style:

I found my dress a long time ago – I went dress shopping with my mom, sister and grandma. My sister knows me very well and after I tried a few dresses on, she knew exactly what I wanted and walked through the shop and found me my dream dress. It was perfect – not quite white but more champagne colored, it had such intricate lace detail, and it was the most comfortable! Although I tried others on but nothing compared to it.

My jewelry and hair piece were what complimented my dress, so I didn’t were a veil. I wore champagne colored shoes as well since the dress really wasn’t white. The bridesmaids wore burgundy, the main wedding color. I wanted them all to be comfortable and feel gorgeous so they picked their own style of dress within the color scheme. The guys wore tuxes with the complimentary burgundy ties. Niv wore a bow tie to set him apart from the groomsmen. The guys all got the same or very similar shoes to go with the tuxes. In general, we wanted to be comfortable but still look great! We wore comfy shoes so we could dance all night.

How We Met:

Niv and I met in college at a party! We hung out for a few weeks before Niv moved out of Davis and then we did long distance for a while. Niv and I moved in together and lived in Davis while I finished vet school. Just before my last year of vet school, we went for a short vacation in Seattle. I had a feeling Niv would propose there and he did! We met up with an old college friend of mine and she showed us around, took us to a nice park and he proposed while her and her friend took photos.

Our Advice:

This advice was given to me by friends and family and I tried to stick to it myself. I was warned that the whole day/weekend goes by so fast, so try to cherish every moment and go with the flow because things will not go off perfectly. In the end, I truly enjoyed every moment of the weekend and especially the big day. We paid to extend our wedding an extra hour because I remember at friends’ weddings I was so sad to have it end. I was so glad we did that extra hour because it gave us flexibility to spend more time with our guests and not feel rushed.

A Love Poem For The Happy Couple:

“I love you for what you are, but I love you yet more for what you are going to be.
I love you not so much for your realities as for your ideals, I pray for your desires that they may be great, rather than for your satisfactions, which may be so hazardously little.
A satisfied flower is one whose petals are about to fall. The most beautiful rose is one hardly more than a bud wherein the pangs and ecstasies of desire are working for a larger and finer growth. Not always shall you be what you are now. You are going forward toward something great. I am on the way with you and therefore I love you.”
